Chelsea were held to a late 2-2 draw at Brentford, but Newcastle welcomed a new goalscoring hero as Nick Woltemade scored a debut winner against Wolves.
Gunners hit summit on frustrating day for Postecoglou
Zubimendi’s brace came either side of another goal from new signing Viktor Gyokeres as the Gunners won convincingly in the 3-0 success at the Emirates Stadium.
Postecoglou, back in a dugout 99 days after being dismissed by Tottenham, failed to beat Arsenal during his time in north London and his new side never seemed likely to change that record.
The downside for Arsenal was another injury for captain Martin Odegaard, who was forced off after 18 minutes.
Chelsea denied late on
Fabio Carvalho scored in the third minute of added time as Brentford dramatically snatched a point against Chelsea at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The visitors looked to have won it when Moises Caicedo crashed home from the edge of the box in the 85th minute, seemingly capping a wonderful comeback inspired by substitute Cole Palmer.
Kevin Schade’s impressively-taken goal had put the hosts ahead at the interval before the Blues hit back once Palmer had been summoned from the bench.
Woltemade makes his mark
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was a happy man after watching record signing Woltemade head his side to a 1-0 victory over Wolves at St James’ Park.
The £69million striker took on the mantle of the departed Alexander Isak to make himself the match-winner in his first run-out in a black and white shirt, leaving Wolves bottom without a point.
Howe said: “It was a great moment for Nick. It was a great finish. I’m really pleased for him.
“He wants to do well and he’s delighted to be here. I think it’s a great start.”
Villa still without a goal
Aston Villa remain the only side in the top five tiers of English football still to score a goal after a 0-0 draw at Everton.
Crystal Palace are still unbeaten after a goalless draw at home to Sunderland, while a late own goal from Gabriel Gudmundsson saw Fulham grab a 1-0 win over Leeds.
Tottenham thrashed 10-man West Ham 3-0 and Bournemouth beat Brighton 2-1.
Pressure mounting on Martin
Furious Rangers fans turned on manager Russell Martin after a 2-0 loss to Hearts at Ibrox left the Light Blues still looking for their first William Hill Premiership win of the season.
“The fans are entitled to their opinion,” Martin said.
Asked if he still had the support of the board, Martin added: “We’ll see, won’t we?”
More goals for Kane
England captain Harry Kane scored twice as champions Bayern Munich thrashed newly-promoted Hamburg 5-0 in the Bundesliga.
On-loan Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund, meanwhile, scored 14 minutes into his Napoli debut, helping them to a 3-1 win at Fiorentina in Serie A.
What’s on today?
Champions Liverpool will bid to return to the top of the Premier League as they take their 100 per cent record to Burnley.
The focus of attention will then switch to Manchester as arch-rivals City and United, both having made underwhelming starts to the season, clash at the Etihad Stadium.
