SNL UK takes aim at Prince William and Andy Burnham’s TV appearances

Saturday Night Live (SNL) UK has mocked prime minister Andy Burnham’s appearance on Celebrity Gogglebox and Prince William’s Graham Norton Show interview.

The programme’s opened with George Fouracres as Burnham and Emma Sidi as Liverpool mayor Steve Rotheram sitting on the Gogglebox sofa, with the Prime Minister telling his friend he had “all the types of crisps a relatable bloke would have in their house”.

Rotheram tells Burnham that SNL UK is his favourite TV show and that he would like them to do an impression of him, but Fouracres’ character tells him “why the hell would they do that?”, and adds: “I’m your best mate and I barely know who you are.”

The pair watched the Graham Norton Show, with Jack Shep taking on the role of Graham Norton and Freddie Meredith playing the Prince Of Wales, with Shep’s character asking William if he can ask him “a slightly cheeky question”.

Meredith’s William replies laughing and says “oh here we go”, before adding: “OK, come on then Graham, you know I’m always a good sport, as you know.”

Norton then asks him if it is true that “your brother Harry has reached out this week”, prompting William to tell him to “shut up”.

Shep’s version of the Irish TV presenter then asks him what he has coming up next, to which William replies that he is “really trying to focus on men’s mental health at the moment”, prompting Norton to pull a lever which throws him out of his chair.

The part took aim at a section of Norton’s show where fans are invited on to tell a story, and the presenter flips them out of the red chair if he finds them boring.

Burnham and Rotheram were also seen watching the Celebrity Traitors, with the Prime Minister remarking: “I love that Traitors, all that spicy backstabbing and plotting, it takes me back to a few months ago when I got this job.”

The pair are interrupted by Paddy Young playing Burnham’s future self, who warns his current self that in a few months the UK will suffer a cyber attack and that he is “the only one who can stop it, by telling people that when they go shopping, they need to buy an extra tin of beans”.

Fouracres’ Burnham then turns towards the audience and says: “With god as my witness, I will tell the country to buy some beans.”

A newspaper Young’s character is holding then changes to read “nation eats beans during cyber attack”, and he adds: “You’ve done it, shagger, you’ve changed the future, now I must return to my timeline.

“Hang on, is that Steve Rotheram? I loved it when they did that impression of you on SNL UK, and they got you bang on.”

The show’s Weekend Update also took aim at child abuse allegations against Thomas Markle, the father of Meghan, Duchess Of Sussex.

Young said: “In royal news it’s been a big 24 hours for Meghan Markle, whose dad has been accused of being an alleged paedophile in another pathetic attempt to win over the British public.”

The full episode can be watched on Sky and its streaming service Now.
