Spice Girls ‘now fully own’ rights to Spice World film, Mel C says

Mel C has said the Spice Girls “now fully own” the rights to the 1997 film Spice World.

Singer “Sporty Spice” – real name Melanie Jayne Chisholm – starred alongside bandmates Geri Halliwell, Melanie “Mel B” Brown, Victoria Beckham and Emma Bunton in the 90s film where the pop stars played themselves as they prepare for a concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

The film features a number of absurd scenarios such as the now Lady Beckham driving a bus with a bomb on it over an opening Tower Bridge as well as cameos from famous faces including Sir Elton John.

Mel C, 52, revealed the girl group will make the film available to stream in the “not too distant future”.

She explained: “It’s not available at the moment. It will be, because there were a lot of people that owned it. It was kind of all over the place. So we’ve had to come together.

“The Spice Girls now fully own it, so we will be presenting it at some point in hopefully the not too distant future for people to enjoy.”

The comedy musical features flashbacks and dream sequences, as the group, who are shown at the start as being dissatisfied with the pressures of fame, also face a smear campaign.

Other cameos in the film include from Sir Roger Moore, Meat Loaf, Elvis Costello, Sir Stephen Fry, Richard E Grant and Jools Holland.
