Public transport operators across South Yorkshire are joining together to offer free travel to serving members of the Armed Forces and veterans on Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day 2026.

Supertram, First Bus and Stagecoach are supporting the initiative to help serving personnel and veterans travel to commemorative events and services across the region.

Free travel will be available on participating services operated by Supertram, Stagecoach and First Bus on both:

  • Sunday 8 November 2026 for Remembrance Sunday.
  • Wednesday 11 November 2026 for Armistice Day.

Free travel will also be honoured on the replacement bus service BL1 between Gleadless Townend and Halfway.

The offer is available to:

  • Serving Armed Forces personnel in uniform or with valid military ID
  • Veterans displaying a Veterans’ Badge, Veterans’ ID Card or military medals
  • Cadets in uniform

Eligible passengers should be prepared to show one of the following forms of identification or proof of service to the onboard tram conductor or bus driver:

  • Serving Armed Forces personnel in uniform or with valid military ID
  • Veterans displaying a Veterans’ Badge, Veterans’ ID Card or military medals (for individuals who served)
  • Cadets in uniform attending Armed Forces Day events
  • Ministry of Defence-issued ID card (MOD90)
  • Defence Discount Service card or a Defence Privilege Card, including war/service widows and widowers
  • Any official documentation proving status as a serving member or veteran

Our drivers reserve the right to observe the 2-minute silence at 11am on both days, if safe to do so, so we kindly ask for your patience on board should this affect your journey. As always, Supertram will proudly display their poppies on the front and rear of trams.

South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard said:

“As we come together across South Yorkshire to mark Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, it’s right that we take time to honour the service and sacrifice of our veterans and armed forces.

“We’re offering free travel on Supertram, alongside some of our bus operators, so veterans and serving personnel attending commemorative events can do so without worrying about the cost of getting there. It’s a small but meaningful way of saying thank you for everything they have done, and continue to do, in service of our country”

Lest we forget
