To be held in Gerry Rafferty’s hometown of Paisley, Scotland, on Saturday 17 April 2027

Get ready for the sound of Baker Street to echo louder than ever before. In 2027, musicians from across the globe will come together in an attempt to set a world record for the largest number of saxophones performing in a band at one time, playing one of the most iconic saxophone melodies ever recorded – “Baker Street.”

The event will mark what would have been the 80th birthday of the late, great Gerry Rafferty, whose timeless 1978 hit remains one of the most recognisable and beloved songs in popular music history.

Paisley music charity Loud n Proud is calling on radio stations across the UK to help spread the word and encourage saxophone players, music schools and teachers to take part in a live band of 2,000 saxophonists. From complete beginners to seasoned professionals, everyone is invited to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime celebration.

The performance aims not only to set a new world record, but also to honour Rafferty’s remarkable contribution to music and the enduring legacy of his songwriting.

“There’s no saxophone line more famous than Baker Street*,”* said Tommy McGrory of Loud n Proud. “We want to fill the air with that unforgettable melody and bring together thousands of players to celebrate Gerry Rafferty’s life, his music, and the joy that song continues to bring people around the world.”

The World Record Saxophone Celebration promises to be an unforgettable musical moment, showcasing the power of music to connect generations and cultures through one massive, unifying sound.

Whether you’re a professional musician, someone who simply loves the saxophone, or perhaps someone inspired to start learning in time for next year, we need YOU to help make history.

Join us in filling the streets of Paisley with the unforgettable sound of Baker Street and celebrate Gerry Rafferty in truly spectacular style.

Musicians can register their interest now at www.gr80.org.
