First Minecraft theme park land to open in London next year

The world’s first Minecraft theme park land is set to open in the UK in 2027 and plans to bring the bestselling video game of all time to life.

Minecraft World will open at Chessington World of Adventures in south-west London and with the world’s first Minecraft-themed rollercoaster, as well as themed shops and dining.

Fans will be able to go on interactive adventures and explore block built playscapes in a world inspired by Minecraft’s most popular biomes, mobs and items, developers say.

The £50 million project is a collaboration between Merlin Entertainments, the owner of Legoland, Alton Towers and Thorpe Park, and Mojang Studios, the company behind Minecraft.

Minecraft creators – including YouTubers Grian, Aimsey, DanTDM, and LDShadowLady – will work with Merlin and Mojang to come up with ideas for the development.

Angela Jobson, senior vice president of global brand at Merlin Entertainments said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be bringing Minecraft’s creativity, bold adventures, and ridiculous fun to life at a theme park for the first time at Chessington World of Adventures.

“Minecraft World will allow friends and families to play, explore and craft together on a truly epic scale. Working closely together with Mojang Studios we are meticulously creating an authentic world that the global community of Minecraft fans will want to immerse themselves in and experience the game in a whole new way.”

Minecraft is the bestselling video game of all time, with millions of people playing every day.

The block-building video game has previously been adapted into a film called A Minecraft Movie which was the highest grossing film at the box office in the UK and Ireland in 2025.
