Kill the Bill protest live in Leeds, Sheffield and the north as hundreds take to the streets

A ‘Kill the Bill’ protest is set to happen today in Leeds and Sheffield.

Protestors are due to assemble outside the Town Hall at 2pm in Sheffield and at 1pm in Briggate, Leeds, to oppose new powers put forward in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill.

The bill allows certain ‘conditions’ to be imposed on public protesting and supporters of the Kill the Bill movement have voiced concerns that this could mean their democratic right to protest is infringed.

A poster advertising today’s protests – which are due to take place across the country – was posted on Twitter by London MP, Dawn Butler.

She said: “You know how p***** off people are about the No 10 parties.

“Well the Government has a new Law that means you’re not allowed to complain loudly or protest about it.

“Today we need to thank the people marching. Trying to ensure the Government can’t silence ordinary citizens.”
