A dangerous thug who attacked a man with a broken Jack Daniel’s bottle and cut his nose off has been jailed.

Nile Eric Walker violently assaulted his ex-girlfriend’s former partner at an address in Sheffield on August 14 in 2020 – just hours after the victim had attended his father’s funeral.

At a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court on January 10, it was heard how Walker and the victim share the same ex partner with whom they both have children.

Walker and the victim had known each other and at the time of the incident there were no issues between them, the court heard.

On the evening of the attack, the victim had been staying with his ex after they had attended his father’s funeral.

Walker, 28, then entered the home in the early hours and attacked him with a broken Jack Daniels bottle, causing serious injuries to his head, face and arms.

“He [the victim] believed that was a knife because he felt himself being stabbed and slashed,” prosecutor Neil Coxon told the court.

“It is now accepted that this was the broken and smashed Jack Daniel’s bottle.”

During the terrifying ordeal, Walker cut off the tip of the victim’s nose which was later found on the bedroom floor by police.

He then went downstairs only to return with two kitchen knives.

“But no witness recalls seeing him actually use the knives to stab or attack the complainant,” Mr Coxon told the court.

The witnesses, his victim’s ex partner and daughter, said they tried to intervene but to no avail.

Emergency services were called at around 4am on August 14 and Walker was arrested and charged with one count of wounding with intent.

He made no comment during police interviews.

Walker’s victim said the attack has left him devastated and he had to have surgery to reattach his nose.

In a victim impact statement read out in court, he said: “Nile’s attack on me has left me devastated. I did nothing to deserve this. I was asleep at the time, having been to my dad’s funeral the day before.

“Since the attack, I’ve been struggling to sleep. When I do sleep, I have nightmares about Nile and about what happened. I awaken with panic, not knowing what is happening and I’m scared.”

The victim said the attack has left him feeling self-conscious about his nose and he avoids leaving the house.

“I don’t like going out as much because I am worried about what people will think,” the statement said.

“If I do go out, I never tend to go far away. I went out the other week and a child was laughing at me because of how I looked.”

He also said he fears that the injuries to his face will have an impact on any intimate relationship.

Due to the severity of his injuries, he has had to have physiotherapy.

“I haven’t been able to grieve my dad properly because of Nile and what he did to me. My attention has been too focused on getting better and recovering,” the statement said.

“I struggled to tie my shoelaces in the beginning but this has since gotten better. I’m still struggling to do basic things like putting my socks on, using a tin opener or carrying my shopping.”

The statement added: “I am terrified of Nile being released and what he might do when he does get out. I do not want him around me or my children because he is dangerous.”

The victim will require further surgery in the next few months.

Walker, of Charter Row, Sheffield, was sentenced to six years and three months imprisonment and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £190.

A restraining order is also in place for 20 years.

Future of controversial seven-storey Sheffield tower block to be decided next week

A new Sheffield city centre tower block which prompted 125 objections from residents and heritage groups could be approved next week.Developers Grantside want to demolish buildings at 39-43 Charles Street and 186-194 Norfolk Street, including a popular yoga studio, and erect a seven-storey block. The original 10-storey design was reduced following negotiations and the grade A offices would be a net zero carbon building. Why are heritage groups objecting? The […]
