Heartbroken family of Sheffield pub stabbing victim Coley Byrne pay tribute to ‘loved’ dad

Heartbroken family members of a man stabbed and killed at a Sheffield pub have paid tributes to him in touching floral tributes.

Coley Byrne, was stabbed at the Gypsy Queen pub in the city on Boxing Day and tragically died from his injuries despite being rushed to hospital.

His family have penned heart wrenching tributes, flowers and messages to him at the scene.

Byrne, 26, from the Westfield area of the city, died in hospital despite “best efforts to save him”.

Outside the pub, dozens of flowers and messages have been written to Coley, including some of the most heartbreaking letters, understood to have been written by his mother, his child, and his partner.

In an emotional letter outside of the pub his partner wrote: “You and the kids was my life and I will cherish you until its my turn and you meet me at those gold gates”

Her message accompanied by beautiful flowers was placed along a framed picture of herself with Coley.

Identified as Jess, the partner promised to love and take care of their children as well as forever remind them of “Daddy”.

Out of words, his mother wrote, simply: “Coley, I love you Son”

Coley’s children penned an equally heartbreaking message, writing: “Dad, we love you so much, wish you were here”.

Dozens of people have taken to Facebook to pay tribute to Mr Byrne.

One friend, Rochelle Bethany, said that she had been friends with Mr Byrne since they were children and he had “always been by my side” and that he “did anything for me”.

At the scene, people could still be seen laying flowers, leaving letters, and paying tribute to Coley, a father who his friends say was always smiling.

One friend wrote, “you didn’t deserve this Coley”.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the stabbing and are appealing for anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

DCI Mick Hakin, the officer leading the investigation, said: “We are looking to speak to anyone who may have been in the Gypsy Queen at the time and who may have seen anything that can help us determine exactly what happened which led to the death of a young man.”

Anyone with information which could assist with is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 845 of 26 December. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
