Woman tragically dies after being ‘trapped’ in Boxing Day house fire in Rotherham

A woman has tragically died after being “trapped” in a house fire on Boxing Day.

Emergency services were called to Landsdowne Close in Thurnscoe at 9.20am this morning (Sunday) following reports of a fire at a house.

When firefighters rushed to the scene, they found a fully developed bedroom fire with the unnamed woman thought to be trapped inside.

Despite the best efforts of crews to extinguish the fire and rescue the woman, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire and police investigators are currently working to establish the cause of the fire – but it is not thought to be suspicious.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this very sad time.”
