Tragedy as police find body in search for missing Doncaster man

Police have sadly found a body in the search for a missing pensioner from Doncaster.

The 84-year-old was last seen leaving his home address in the Bessacarr area of the town shortly after 4pm on December 4.

Officers have now confirmed the search for the man, named only as John, has come to a sad conclusion.

Although formal identification has not yet taken place, it is believed to be the body of John and his family have been informed.

When news of John’s disappearance was announced, many people offered to volunteer to help police search for him as the temperatures plummetted.

In a post published on Facebook, South Yorkshire Police said: “We are sorry to share that a body has been found in the search for John from Doncaster.

“John, 84, was reported missing to us yesterday (Saturday, December 4).

“We know you have been really concerned and we have seen your comments this morning requesting an update, however we needed to ensure John’s family had been told the news, and that they had had time to talk to extended family and friends before we published anything publicly.”

The force added: “Thank you for all your help yesterday and overnight – we always appreciate your support.”
