Furious visitors ‘speechless’ as Doncaster Christmas market dubbed ‘Britain’s worst’

A stallholder at Doncaster’s Christmas Market has spoken out after the event was dubbed Britain’s worst.

Hundreds of people from across the country took to the privately organised event in the Parklands Club on Wheatley Hall Road earlier this week.

Instead of a magical experience in the South Yorkshire town, one guest said it “turns out to be a flea market” in the centre of Doncaster.

This wasn’t the only criticism faced by the event with others left “speechless” at the event that one even said was a “waste of time.”

One unimpressed visitor said: “What a con. Hundreds of people in Doncaster Centre yesterday looking for ‘Doncaster’s Late Night Christmas Market ‘ including us.

“Many travelling long distances from as far as Bedford, Hull, Rotherham, Leeds and Bradford for what? Turns out to be a flea market in the Parklands Club on Wheatley Hall Road, so much for the ‘centre of Doncaster.”

A second person said: “It was absolutely unbelievable. I was left speechless and astounded tbh. Absolutely appalling that this was able to be advertised as a Christmas Market and linked to Doncaster, terrible”

A third added: “I literally went yesterday at about 12. It took us ages to find it not even the satnav picked it up.

“Thousands were interested so I assumed it would be good. But it took us less than 10 mins to look around. There was nothing to do with Xmas there. It was even worse than the actual regular market in Doncaster Town centre! It was full of false advertising.

“It said there would be fair rides and food stalls etc but there was nothing there but cheap tacky clothes and bags. Absolutely pathetic and a big waste of time. I shared it with a bad review straight away to prevent anyone else from wasting their time.”

However, market stallholder Rob Woollaston has said most stallholders enjoyed the event following the huge backlash.

Rob from Derby said: “As a stallholder, I had one of the best days I’ve had this year so far if honest. Think most stallholders enjoyed it.

“Tried to light our stalls up with the power we were provided for part of the fee. We were advised to bring own lights for our stalls which was helpful. Angie was really helpful before during and after the event

“None of my make-up is fake. All genuine items. And the Watches are all ex-high street Burtons Topshop etc. Lots of happy customers yesterday happy with the bargains.”
