Funeral held for ‘shining star’ Connie Gent, 11, killed in Killamarsh tragedy

The funeral of a “sweet little girl” killed while she was at a sleepover was held on Thursday at Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium in Sheffield.

Connie Gent, 11, was found dead on September 19 in Chandos Crescent, Killamarsh, where she had been staying at her best friend’s home.

She was killed alongside Lacey Bennett, 11, her brother John Paul Bennett, 13, and the siblings’ mum Terri Harris, 35.

Damien Bendall, 31, will go on trial accused of the murder of the four victims , next year.

Connie’s heartbroken father previously paid tribute to his young daughter.

Charlie Gent told ITV News : “Connie was such a special and sweet little girl.

“She was my little sidekick. She was my rock, my shining star, my angel.”

“She touched everyone she met,” he added.

Mr Gent also said: “The hardest thing is I’m not going to get to hold her again” and that he feels like he let her down.

Killamarsh murder investigation

He invited everyone to attend the funeral to give his daughter “The send off she deserves.”

In a post shared on Facebook, Mr Gent said: “Just letting you all know, Connie Gent’s funeral will be at 3.15pm on the 28th October at Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium.

“All welcome as would like to give my daughter the send off she deserves.”

The funeral of mum-of-two Terri Harris was held on October 21 in Killamarsh, where hundreds of people lined the streets to pay their respects.

The service had a coloured theme in honour of her favourite football team West Ham United.

A sound system was also used to relay the service to those gathered outside the church, which was reserved for friends and family.
