Dramatic pictures of Locke Park shooting in Barnsley as huge armed police cordon in place after person found bleeding

Locke Park in Barnsley has a cordon in place after a person was shot and found bleeding in the park

Armed police and paramedics have descended on a park in Barnsley this afternoon, after a person was shot.

A cordon is currently in place in Locke Park, in the Kingstone area of the town, with a number of officers from South Yorkshire Police‘s armed response unit on the scene.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service have confirmed that they attended this afternoon to reports that a person was “shot and was bleeding”.

Harrowing footage from the scene shows a number of paramedics tending to an injured man on the ground, with armed officers standing guard nearby.

Crowds have gathered in Locke Park and locals have spoken of their shock, with one person saying that it “makes you not want to go anywhere”.

They said: “Makes you not want to go anywhere!! A shooting at locke park though think barnsley needs the military to pay a visit I fear for my kids when they get older and start going out on their own” [SIC].

South Yorkshire Police have not yet responded to YorkshireLive’s request for comment, but Yorkshire Ambulance Service have confirmed that they have sent a number of emergency vehicles to the scene.

A spokesperson said: “We got a call at 2.55pm to reports of a person who had been shot and was bleeding.

“We sent one ambulance, one rapid response vehicle, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance was in attendance and so was our hazardous area response team.”
