The UK has recorded another 127 coronavirus-related deaths and a further 36,060 infections in the latest 24-hour period, government figures show.

The number of deaths is an increase on the 122 fatalities which were confirmed yesterday, while the number of infections is lower than the 40,701 which were recorded.

A total of 49,101,734 people have now had their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine after a further 33,029 daily jabs were confirmed on Friday.

Live COVID updates from the UK and around the world

A further 28,656 people were confirmed to have had both doses, bringing the total to 45,107,185.

According to the latest data, there are 6,763 people in hospital with coronavirus, compared with 6,590 seven days before. Also, 808 COVID patients are on ventilators.

Children aged between 11 and 16 have the highest COVID-19 positivity rate for any age group, according to the latest data.

More on Covid-19

Around one in 15 youngsters in school years 7 to 11 in England are estimated to have had coronavirus in the week up to 2 October, compared with one in 20 the previous week, figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show.

The COVID-19 rates have also increased for people aged 35 to 49 and over-70s.

Meanwhile, the government has announced vaccine clinical trial participants will be given the opportunity to receive two additional doses of an approved jab so they can travel abroad.

The majority of foreign countries currently do not recognise clinical trial volunteers as being fully vaccinated, instead requiring visitors to be jabbed with a COVID vaccine that is approved by regulators.

The additional doses will initially be offered to those taking part in the Novavax trial, before being rolled out to participants in other relevant trials within the coming weeks.

It comes as the Foreign Office has lifted restrictive COVID travel advice for a further 51 countries and territories.

Destinations that are having the “all but essential travel” advice lifted today includes former amber list nations such as Jamaica and The Bahamas.

A second stage will see 42 ex-red list countries and territories having the advice removed on Monday, including South Africa, Mexico and the Seychelles.
