‘We’ve never seen this here before’ – Killamarsh residents react to serious police scene on ‘quiet’ estate

Terrified residents have reacted after police have set up a huge cordon after a “serious” incident on a “quiet” estate near Sheffield.

Derbyshire Police were called to Chandos Crescent, Killamarsh, at 7.25am this morning but have stayed tight lipped on what has happened despite a man being arrested.

The whole road is cordoned off with multiple police vehicles still at the scene including a police tent outside of a house.

They say that they will remain there for “some time”.

For those living in the area they say that the huge police presence has come as a “shock” in an earlier that is usually quiet.

One woman who lives close by said: “It’s a bit of a shock, it’s usually quiet round here so you don’t usually see police, not like this anyway.”

Another added: “We’ve been away for 10 days and thought ‘oh god’ when I saw all of this.

“It’s usually quiet here, but police said ‘don’t worry’ to us but we don’t know anything.”

Another couple said they have heard lots of rumours about what has happened but “don’t usually see anything like this round here”.

In a statement Derbyshire Constabulary said: “We remain at the scene of a serious incident at a property in Killamarsh and will continue to be in the area for some time.

“Officers were called to the property on Chandos Crescent just after 7.25am this morning (Sunday 19 September).

“One man has been arrested in connection with the incident and he is currently in police custody.

“We understand that residents may be feeling concerned and would like to reassure people that the incident is believed to be isolated.

“At this time we are not able to provide further information, but we will give further details once we are able to.”

Another shocked resident reacting to the police scene said: “You don’t really want to see all this on your doorstep”

While another added: “We’ve never seen this here before.”
