This is the moment that a man was arrested and put into the back of a police car after officers swooped on a cannabis farm inside a house in Doncaster.

South Yorkshire Police have been out in force today, as part of Operation Duxford, to tackle issues like drugs, anti-social behaviour and wanted people in the town.

It is part of a district wide effort to tackle the issues that matter the most to those who live there.

Part of the operation saw simultaneous warrants issued at two houses on Somerset Road, Hyde Park, which were suspected to be growing cannabis.

Doors of the two properties were opened with force and a man arrested.

Once inside officers found significant amounts of cannabis plants inside the property with set ups to bypass electricity.

One house had a growing tent at the back of the property as well as two rooms upstairs filled with black tents growing the plants with heat lamps and fans.

Inside one room was approximately 27 plants which at full maturity could sell from as much as £1,000 each.

In the other house, grows were found covering the space in the downstairs cellar as well as upstairs, with sophisticated set ups for heating the plants, bypassing electricity and keeping the room cool.

ACC David Hartley said that it is likely that the grows are part of something wider.

He said: “You don’t usually get someone who decides to do something on this scale on their own.

“It is usually a number of people or an organised crime group involved. The people who work and live at these houses are nicknamed gardeners and they face the consequences.

“But our investigation doesn’t stop there and we go on to look at what is behind the grow.

“We have officers who specialise in getting into doors for this sort of enforcement activity, but what we are finding is more and more are enforcing doors to make it harder for us to get in.

“So that means we have to adapt and grow as well and use equipment at our disposal to get in.”

Operation Duxford activity will be ongoing throughout the day in Doncaster and into the evening which will see an increased police presence from across the district.
