Footage shows horror moment Sheffield flat on 5th floor goes up in flames at city centre apartments

This is the horrifying moment that a fifth floor flat in Sheffield erupted into flames in a city centre apartment block.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to the scene after reports of a flat fully ablaze at Velocity Village in Solly Street just before 6pm yesterday, Tuesday.

Six fire engines and a turntable ladder were called to the high rise building in the city centre.

A video showed the blaze ripping through the flat prompting the whole building to be evacuated.

The flames were quickly dealt with by firefighters and no injuries were reported.

Fire investigation officers are now trying to establish a cause of the blaze.

A statement from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue last night said: “We’ve had six fire engines and a turntable ladder at a high rise building in #Sheffield, this evening.

“Crews were called to Velocity Village, Solly Street, at 5.58pm. Upon arrival they found a flat on the 5th floor fully involved in fire.

“The whole building was evacuated, as a precaution, and breathing apparatus wearers quickly dealt with the blaze. It is now out and there are no injuries to report.

“Fire investigation officers are now on their way to the scene to establish the cause.

“Incredible work yet again from our crews and amazing work from our control staff, too, who are at the heart of our incident response. Every time.

“Bravo!”
