Staff at hospital suffer racist abuse as ‘man refuses treatment’

Staff at a hospital in Doncaster were subjected to aggressive and racist abuse after a man refused treatment.

South Yorkshire Police were called to Doncaster Royal Infirmary on Tuesday after reports that a man was being aggressive and abusive toward staff.

It was also reported to officers that he had been racially abusive.

Hospital security detained the man and the 53-year-old man was then arrested when officers from the force arrived.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers were called to DRI following reports of a man being aggressive and abusive towards staff after he had refused treatment.

“He was also reported to have been racially abusive.

“Hospital security detained him and on officers’ arrival a 53 year old man was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault and a public order offence. He remains in custody at this time.”
