As great as living in a city can be, sometimes you just need to escape the hustle and bustle and escape into the countryside for some fresh air and stunning views.

In South Yorkshire there is one place that has this in abundance, Damflask Reservoir.

The best part is that you don’t have to travel very far outside of Sheffield in order to find it.

The reservoir is situated just five miles west of the centre of the city in the Loxley Valley close to the village of Low Bradfield but still within the city’s boundaries.

However, when you arrive there you feel like you are in a completely different place.

The huge reservoir is famed for its stunning views and the woodlands surrounding it have always been a popular route for walkers visiting the area.

Recently the 3.5 mile circular walking route has been made even more accessible. The work included the widening of access points to facilitate wheelchairs, tactile paving and an accessible ramp down to the waterside for fishing.

The reservoir sits just within the boundary of the Peak District National Park giving it stunning views of beautiful countryside while still being very accessible from Sheffield.

The 47 hectare area of open water is also popular for angling and water sports including three active rowing clubs and the Viking Sailing Club.

It is also an extremely popular spot for fishing.

The reservoir can be fished for bream, chub, dace, perch, pike and roach and is open all year round.

Over recent years Yorkshire Water have restocked the reservoir with over 100 bream, some weighing more than 4lbs each.

A ticket has to be purchased on the day if you wish to fish at the reservoir.

And while you are there visiting the reservoir it is also very close by to the quaint Sheffield villages of Low Bradfield and High Bradfield.

The two villages are separated, as you probably guessed it, by a huge steep hill and road.

But both offer amenities and friendly faces that visitors to the reservoir can explore.

This includes local pubs, shops, post office and the local cricket club.
