A heartbroken family have been left devasted after their loved mum has died – despite her wish to see her granddaughter’s 10th birthday.

Allie Brackley, 54, was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer in 2020 after she complained of severe pain under her ribcage, which was orginally diagnosed as gallstones.

After weeks of telephone appointments, Allie was eventually rushed to hospital which is where doctors made the devastating diagnosis.

Though Allie’s prognosis was grim – with a life expectancy of around one year from diagnosis – her family immediately began fundraising for an experimental surgical treatment which could give Allie an extra five years, just enough time to make it to her beloved granddaughter’s 10th birthday.

But the family were dealt a devastating blow over the weekend as the cancer was just too aggressive and she died on Sunday surrounded by friends and family.

Allie’s daughter Annalies Shipley, who lives in Chapeltown in Sheffield, had been doing sponsored runs to raise money for her mum’s treatment.

In an emotional statement Annalies said: “It is with huge sadness that I announce the passing of my mother Alison on Sunday.

“It was only a month ago that I completed my runs around Chapeltown to raise funds for her treatment but unfortunately the cancer was just too aggressive and she passed away surrounded by family at home.

“For those wonderful people who donated/ contributed to our cause I wanted to let you know that the funds will be donated to McMillan, Pancreatic Cancer UK and Myton Hospice who were all exceptional in caring for my mother.

“Thank you again for your support.”

Before her death Allie had expressed a wish to make it to see her granddaughter’s 10th birthday.

Back in March this year, Annalies told South Yorkshire Live : “She has expressed a desire to make it to my daughter’s 10th birthday in five years time, just because she thinks that at five-years-old you’re not going to remember much and at the moment they absolutely adore each other.

“My daughter is a bright little button and I have told her that granny has cancer, so she knows that she’s going to die but I don’t think she understands the finality of it; she can’t understand why granny can’t get better, it doesn’t compute with her.”

Almost £10,000 was raised for Allie on a Go Fund Me page before her death.

All of the funds raised will now be split between Macmillan Cancer and Myton Hospice and Pancreatic Cancer UK.
