A Barnsley mum who gave birth in her car has been searching for the hero lady who helped her – and has now found her.

Sarah-Jane Kitching was just a few minutes from getting into Barnsley hospital on June 6 when her third baby, Milania-Rae, decided she was ready to make an appearance into the world.

Her partner had already pulled up and was rushing into Barnsley Hospital to get help, when she realised her baby had almost arrived.

Sarah-Jane said: “I’d woken up at 7am and thought I had wet myself when I was coughing so had gone and got clean and fresh PJs.

“It wasn’t until I went downstairs and grabbed a coffee that I realised it could have been my waters going.

“I wasn’t due till June 26, and I had no pains or anything so I got in, washed my pots and rang my mum.

“She said to ring the hospital, just to be on the safe side and they told me to go in.

“I’ve got a nine year old boy and one year old girl and they were still asleep so my partner got them up to take them round to my mum.

“I still had no pains or contractions. just one in my bum so I never thought I was in labour.

“I got from Darfield to Barnsley and just as we got to the traffic lights at the hospital I told my partner, ‘she’s here and I need to push!’

Sarah-Jane continued: “We got literally to the pelican crossing outside the women’s services and I needed to push , so he just stopped, left car door open and ran in the hospital for help but as it was a Sunday, it was like a ghost town.

“But in the meantime, I knew she was there so I pulled my bottoms off and just out corner of my eye I saw a lady crossing.

“I shouted for her to help me so this lady came and said what do you need help with – at this point the baby’s head and shoulders were out so she took her coat out of her bag and caught the baby.

“Milania-Rae was born crying, the lady had hold of the baby and then the nurses and my partner come back to the car!”

After Sarah-Jane and her baby girl had been checked over at the hospital, Sarah-Jane took to social media to try and find the woman who had helped deliver Milania-Rae .

Posting to her local Facebook page, she asked for help in tracking the hero down in an attempt to be able to thank her.

After almost 400 shares of her post, the grand-daughter of Chris Swallows, the Good Samaritan, got in touch.

Sarah-Jane said: “I wanted to buy her a new coat and some flowers but she doesn’t want a fuss!

“But I’m going to try and get some to her through her grand-daughter Elise.”

Both mother and baby are now doing well.
