Live Covid news for Yorkshire as government set to update travel list

share close

The government is due to update the travel list which could see holiday destinations upgraded or downgraded.

There have been fears that Portugal – currently on the green list – could be moved to amber, meaning travellers would have to quarantine at home for 10 days when they return to the UK.

The government has also strongly advised against travelling to any amber list countries for leisure purposes.

Experts predict the list is unlikely to be extended by many destinations but a number of Greek Islands, Malta and parts of the Caribbean could be added.

It comes after the vaccines minister said that there is “nothing to suggest” that the roadmap out of lockdown needs to be moved to a new date.

Speaking to ITV’s Robert Peston, vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi said that the government have “been straight with people” and reiterated that the nation will be provided with relevant information on June 14.

He said: “At the moment there’s nothing in the data to suggest that we need to move the road map.

“We’ve been straight with people, as both the Prime Minister and the Health Secretary have said, on June 14 we will share with the nation all the data that we’d have gathered.

“The next 12 days are going to be really important to see what the virus is doing. We’ve got a very large-scale surveillance infrastructure in place in terms of waste water surveillance and large-scale testing.”
