The 16 businesses in Sheffield with a one-star food hygiene rating

More than a dozen businesses in Sheffield have been handed a one-star food hygiene rating since the start of last year, according to the latest figures.

The Food Standards Agency rates businesses on a scale of zero to five. A score of zero means a food safety officer believes the business in question must urgently improve its food hygiene standards.

A score of one means major improvement is required.

Ratings are typically given to businesses where food is supplied, sold or consumed and each score is given after a number of factors are considered.

These typically include:

  • How food is handled;
  • How food is stored;
  • How food is prepared;
  • The cleanliness of facilities;
  • How food safety is managed.

During an inspection the officer responsible will check how food is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored.

An officer also examines the layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities at the business. A food hygiene rating does not reflect the quality of the food.

Below is a list of the 16 businesses in Sheffield to have been slapped with a one-star food hygiene rating since the start of 2020.

‘Glimmer of hope’ for breweries after pub reopenings beat expectations

An "unbelievable" surge in post-lockdown demand for cask beer is offering "a glimmer of hope" for the struggling UK pub industry.Production has been ramped up at breweries after some underestimated just how many pints would be sold in pubs after they reopened in last month.
