Four teenagers and a man have been locked up after an autistic man was tortured at knifepoint as a 16-year-old girl put out cigarettes on his arms and legs – with footage of the horrendous act uploaded to Snapchat.

The 22-year-old victim, who had been staying at a hotel in Sheffield on July 23 last year, visited another room to socialise with a neighbour.

However, after arriving at around 11pm, he was met by Jamie Lee Patterson, Joseph Dean, two teenage girls and a teenage boy.

There had been a discussion about their victim labelling the teen girls as “tramps” and, in the Snapchat footage played at Sheffield Crown Court earlier this week, he was told to apologise multiple times.

The footage also showed Patterson, 19, holding a knife to his victim’s right leg while one of the girls is seen to continuously light a cigarette and push it against his legs.

He is then told to get on his knees and apologise to the same girl.

His bag is also emptied onto the bed and his tobacco, cigarettes and phone were all taken. Each time he tried to leave he was told to sit back down on the bed and, at one point, is kicked in the head.

Prosecutor James Baird told the court this was a “case of bullying and humiliation”.

The Recorder Jonathan Sandiford suggested it was more than that given the violence used against the victim who was also kicked and punched.

He added that the victim was viewed as an “unwelcome outsider” having recently moved into the hotel.

Recorder Sandiford said the teen girl “tormented, if not tortured, this young man” and revelled in the humiliation.

The victim was also hit with his bag and kicked in the head. He also had a knife pointed at his throat on each occasion he attempted to leave.
