5 cars torched in series of devastating arson attacks across Doncaster

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to three car fires in Balby, Doncaster, last night.

The first, on Woodfield Road, involved a car and a van with firefighters from Edlington on scene to put out the “deliberate” fire at 11.15pm.

The fire took nearly an hour to clear, with crews coming away at 12.10am.

Photos from the scene shows the interior of a white van on fire, with large plumes of smoke billowing above nearby houses.

Shortly after the fire at Woodfield Road was reported, firefighters from Doncaster were called to nearby Sheppard Road to another “deliberate” car fire, which was reported at 11.20pm.Crews left the scene at 11.55pm.

Firefighters from Edlington were called to another car fire at 12.55am and found a Vauxhall Astra had been deliberately torched on Blackwood Avenue. Crews left the scene at 1.30am.

Officers from Doncaster attended a fourth car fire during their shift, this time in Thorne.

Two men were spotted fleeing the scene of a crash in King Street after setting the vehicle alight, with the road closed until 8.30am on Tuesday morning.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said:”Police were called at around 1am on Tuesday 4 May to reports of a collision in King Street, Thorne.

“It is reported that a car had crashed into a storefront. After the collision, two men got out of the vehicle and set the car alight before fleeing in a dark-coloured BMW.

“Emergency services attended the scene and the fire was extinguished. The road was closed whilst they carried out their work.

“The car was recovered and the road re-opened at around 8:30am.”

South Yorkshire Police have confirmed that two men crashed the car, deliberately set it alight and then fled in a dark coloured BMW.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 39 of May 4.

The fire service were also called to three other vehicle arsons overnight last night, with three deliberate fires reported in the Balby area of Doncaster.

As well as the car and a van torched in Woodfield Road, crews were called to another deliberate car fire on nearby Sheppard Road.

A Vauxhall Astra was then set on fire during the early hours of this morning in Blackwood Avenue.
