A quarry in Derbyshire looks to be used as a location for some action-packed drama in the next Mission: Impossible film.

Pictures show a train track running towards a precipice at the open pit near Stoney Middleton in the Peak District.

Tom Cruise, who plays main character Ethan Hunt, had previously been seen filming in the North York Moors.

The 58-year-old actor, who is known for performing his own stunts, was seen on top of a mocked-up steam train during the week.

The Hollywood actor waved to members of the public who spotted him near the town of Pickering on a heritage railway.

While on set, he was seen wearing a face mask, a blue roll-neck jumper, trousers and boots.

The actor was also joined by his entourage.

Hundreds of crew members were seen around the set in North Yorkshire.

The leading man arrived in a helicopter, and was seen acting opposite Hayley Atwell.

The upcoming film, so far known as Mission: Impossible 7, has suffered a number of setbacks during production.

Chief among these were the delays caused by the coronavirus, with filming having been scheduled to start in Italy in February 2020.

Production was then moved to the Warner Bros Studios in Leavesden in Hertfordshire.

Earlier this month, the release date for the film was moved back from November until May 2022.

Mission: Impossible 8, also co-starring Atwell, is slated for release in 2023.
