Anti-government protestors will take to the streets of two Yorkshire cities just days after lockdown is planned to end.

A series of demonstrations will take place in 10 locations across the UK in June, with Leeds and Sheffield among the cities earmarked for the events.

Stand of Defiance European Movement (SODEM), a campaign group established in 2017, is behind the plans.

Its founder, Steve Bray, has shot to fame in recent years for interrupting TV broadcasts by constantly shouting “stop Brexit”.

For several years, SODEM have been vocal critics of the government’s handling of Brexit, but now they are switching their attention to alleged “lies and corruption” at the heart of government.

They have called upon supporters to join them in Leeds on June 24 and in Sheffield on June 26. Exact times and locations are yet to be announced.

Lockdown restrictions are set to end on June 21, just a few days before the protests are set to go ahead.

More protests are also planned in London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Belfast, among others.

Mr Bray tweeted: “Protest Proposal: This is just a suggestion on a way forward and a start to the UK-wide protest against Government.

“We can all work together to achieve this and more.

“23/06 London Parliament, 24/06 Leeds, 25/06 Manchester, 26/06 Liverpool, 27/06 Edinburgh / Cardiff / Belfast / London.”
