Room above Sheffield restaurant could be micro distillery

share close

A Sheffield restaurant owner is planning to convert a flat above their business into a micro distillery.

Dam House Bar and Restaurant, near Crookes Valley Park, submitted the plans to Sheffield Council.

If approved, the property above the restaurant in Mushroom Lane will be used for making alcoholic drinks.

The plan is for the current kitchen to be used for the production process. A bedroom would be converted into a warehouse room for the finished product.

The spare room would be used to store raw materials and the bathroom would stay the same.

In a supporting statement provided with the plans, the applicant said the proposed run times are between noon and 5pm on working days.

They added that they plan to put in place a number of safety measures including fireproof flooring below the still with safety points clearly marked around the room and a small, solid brick wall between the still and collection unit to isolate any flames from alcohol being produced.

They also said there will be limited waste product, noise and smell as waste will be disposed through existing management, waste ethanol will be watered down and disposed through a drainage system and an extractor fan will remove any smell.

There were no comments from members of the public.
