A thug who rammed his car at a rival in the street and attacked him with a metal wheel brace in front of horrified sex workers has been jailed.

Sammy Singleton had been driving in the Thorne Road area of Doncaster on November 1, 2020, and approached a number of sex workers in the street at around 10pm.

The 31-year-old the argued with one of the sex worker’s boyfriends and was attacked with a concrete slab and stabbed in the leg, Sheffield Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Helen Chapman said Singleton then drove off before returning in his Renault at speed.

She said: “Shortly thereafter, in seeking retribution for what had gone one, Mr Singleton returned to Thorne Road in his car.

“He drove the car at the complainant. The car mounted the pavement and hit the complainant. He was thrown across the bonnet and into the road.”

Singleton got out of the car with another man and shouted at his victim warning him not to call the police.

Having called 999, his victim was helped by his girlfriend and officers arrived in a bid to find Singleton.

As they searched for him, he returned on foot and attacked his victim once again, punching him to the ground and kicking him in the head while he lay on the floor.

His victim was told by the police to stay where he was, but Singleton returned yet again and hit him repeatedly with a metal wheel brace.

Ms Chapman described the victim as being “entirely helpless” in the street and added that Singleton laughed as he struck the man with the brace.

The ordeal came to an end when Singleton, of Abbeyfield Road, Dunscroft, said to his friend “he’s dead” and the pair fled.

Singleton admitted wounding with intent, driving while disqualified and drink driving.

Ed Moss, defending him, said his client had learnt to fend for himself since the age of five and had a personality disorder.

He also contested claims that one of the violent episodes lasted 20 minutes.

Judge Sarah Wright described the outbursts of violence as “ruthless” and sentenced Singleton to seven years and six months in prison.
