Police officer denies wounding of Barnsley football fan, 16

A South Yorkshire Police officer has denied wounding a teenage football fan during a heated clash.

PC William Sampson appeared at Leeds Crown Court to enter a not guilty plea to unlawfully and maliciously wounding a 16-year-old boy following a football match last February.

A teenage boy was left with blood pouring from his head during a melee in Midland Street, Barnsley, following a game between Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday in February 2020.

An investigation into the attack was launched and PC Sampson was charged nine months later.

A provisional trial date has been set for March 7, 2022.
